LIFE HAPPENS!

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2013...

Remember that day? That's when I said Episode 3 would be launching soon.  A year and a half later...where is it?

      I'm sure other writers have experienced this non writer's block event.  It's called "Life getting in the way".  Unfortunately not all of us have the luxury of unlimited time to lounge around the beach or lake and pen their masterpieces.  Some of us have, dare I say it?...jobs, kids and other commitments before we can indulge ourselves in our artistic pursuits.

      Agatha Christie suffered 5 years of rejections before she got a publishing deal. It took Judy Blume 2 years to bring "The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo" to reality. So I don't feel bad that it's taking me almost 2 years to complete the 3rd in the series.  As I stated in previous postings; it took 10 years to complete "UC 630 Cop or Criminal" The Novel.

     What has happened to motivate me to get moving on finishing up the 3rd eBook? The enormous royalites I'm receiving from Amazon.kindle? Nope. The 100's of literary agents knocking down my door to represent my novel? Hell no! It was the reality check when I woke up a few days and realized that in 4 years I will reach my 62nd birthday.  This is the benchmark where I had plan to retire for the second time.  I imagined royalties coming in from the many projects I have planned, book signings and living a life of leisure.  But I'm not so spaced out that I don't realize I have to work at it to get there. And if it means doing it while I'm still working full time then so be it.

     I will no longer give a projected launch date.  All I can do is ask that you should follow my blogs or me on twitter for any updates.

MY REJECTIONS INSPIRE ME!

I've been sending out lots of queries to Publishers and Literary Agents who accept unsolicited queries for a few months now. Some of the rejections are sent with encouragement and constructive suggestions. These are few and in between. Other rejections are flat out, conveyor belt, you're not Stephen King, type rejections. Then there are the three months later I hope you're not still waiting for a response type rejections.

The ones I'm concerned with are the ones that come back with "thank you for your query but we feel this is not a good fit or something that we would want to represent or publish".

I used to feel a twinge of disappointment when I got these type rejections. I would sometimes begin to doubt the merits of my work.  Then I had a conversation with a published friend of mine who said "you already know this is a process to become published traditionally.  You have to be patient in finding a publisher who is willing to take on the type of writing you're doing. Some publishers shy away from books that are not political correct, controversial, or different from the mainstream publishing they're used to. Basically they don't have the balls and want to stick with the safe bets.  You have to continue to maintain your confidence in your work and be patient that your literary match made in heaven is coming".

I would have kissed him after hearing those words but I don't think his wife would have understood lol.

So now I have a new perspective on looking at rejections to the book and never again will I waiver in my belief that the world needs to read:

I hope to get this one out to you guys and gals by Thanksgiving!  Sorry I missed my Halloween projected release date but I didn't want to give you folks a rushed product.

Episode 1 is now Free! 9/7/13

I decided to make the first eBook episode free because going forward I feel it is imperative that the reader become familiar with the main characters as they develop and evolve in sub-sequent episodes.

I felt a need to do this until the Big Book or main novel is published which breaks down all the characters and their personality conflicts in more detail.

Reflections

I was going through some old albums and I came across this pic. I recalled a time when I was walking downtown behind an elderly white couple.  The man kept looking back at me. When they got to the corner they crossed the street. I paid them no mind until I saw a homeless man start harassing them for money. I crossed the street and asked them if the man was bothering them. Now I guess they think they are being cornered by two homeless men.  Before they could answer I took out my shield from under my shirt and told the homeless man to "get the f*ck out of the area". He took off running. Before the couple could thank me I told them to "have a nice day" and crossed back over to my side of the street.  I'm sure that incident left an indelible impact on their thoughts about racial profiling.  

The same thing happened when I was off duty and helped a uniformed cop take down a perp. He thought he had to perps to deal with until I told him I was "on the job".  Oh what a relief it is.
